We have been asked over and over where to donate to make a difference in the area. To be honest, the answer was harder to find than I thought it would be. There are some amazing humans and grass roots efforts making a huge difference in the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock, and Bat cave areas, but many are not official charities and hard to fine (especially since cell and internet is still out for most of the area).

Flood update: Our local helper, Brandy, was able to access the house via her boat this afternoon. These images were taken from our cove a short time ago (9/28 at 4:30 PM).

Here is the latest news we have received:
- The town/emergency management has rapidly lowered water levels to reduce stress on the dam and allow the engineers to assess fully.
- Our guests are safe, well, and comfortable with the generator at the main house.
- Our immediate neighbors are all accounted for and okay.
- There is an accessible route in/out of our side of the lake via Buffalo shoals road (towards rumbling bald) so emergency vehicles and infrastructure repair crews can get in (without going over the dam).
- Our boats are in their lifts! Unsure of their overall condition, but they are not adrift or sunk so that’s a huge win. #lakelure #lakeluredam #lakelurenc #westernnc #ashevillenc #828isgreat #helene #hurricanehelene

“Fun” story: We stayed in a short term rental

“Fun” story: We stayed in a short term rental in Nashville a few years ago and upon checking out, I discovered vomit on the pillow I had been sleeping on for daysss! Someone had puked on said pillow then a cleaning crew came in and just put a pillowcase on it. I only discovered it when removing the pillowcase as part of the check out procedures.

I’m still not over it. So, did I recently climb around under this vanity and behind this toilet?!? SURE DID. Because we (and our amazing cleaning team) want those baseboards to be CLEAN.
